Leer Es Triunfar (Reading Is Succeeding)
is a program that began in 2003 to promote the library services
to Latino adults, children, and families in Riverside County.
Since it began, Leer Es Triunfar has sponsored dozens of
library programs across the county including author talks,
computer classes, children’s programs, career and
jobs programs, and financial literacy classes.
Leer Es Triunfar has been instrumental
in the creation of annual observances within the county
library system of "Día de los Niños/Día
de los Libros" (Day of the Child/Day of the Book),
an international celebration of the power of books, libraries,
and reading to shape the lives and opportunities of young
people.
In 2008, Leer Es Triunfar won the Raúl and Estela Mora Award presented by REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking, in honor of the Riverside County’s efforts to promote Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), an annual celebration of the power of books and reading.
In 2005, Leer Es Triunfar won the prestigious
John Cotton
Dana Award for Library Public Relations projects from
the Library Administration and Management Association of
the American Library Association. This award recognized
the innovation represented by the program as well as the
creativity of the staff working in this project.
Leer Es Triunfar was made possible by
Library Services and Technology Act Grants from
the California State Library awarded in the 2003-04 and
2004-05 fiscal years.
